Abstract:
【Objective】This research aims to investigate the regulatory effects of light illuminance on the growth, leaf color, leaf anthocyanins, and relative chlorophyll content of Aglaonema modestu, and analyze its physiological responses to light stress,to provide a theoretical basis for the cultivation and application of A.modestum.【Method】Using one-year-old seedlings of five A.modestum varieties, including‘ Jilihong’,‘Zhong-guohong’,‘Dongfanghong’,‘Ruyi’ and‘ Hongyan’ as the experimental subjects, three lighting conditions (low:600-900 lx,medium:1 000-2 500 lx,and high:2 500-7 700 lx) were set.And growth indicators (plant height, biomass, etc.) and physiological indicators(leaf color, anthocyanins, enzyme activity, etc.) of seedlings were measured.【Result】① Under high light conditions, all varieties showed the best growth indicators, including plant height and biomass per plant, and the plants were the strongest. ②The stronger the light, the darker the color of the leaves, and the more vibrant the patterns. The content of anthocyanins in most varieties increased with increasing light exposure. Different varieties exhibited varying responses in their relative chlo‐ rophyll content(SPAD value) to light illuminance. The SPAD values of‘ Jilihong’ and‘ Ruyi’ first increased and then decreased with increasing light illuminance, while those of‘ Dongfanghong’,‘Zhongguohong’ and ‘Hongyan’ continuously increased with increasing light illuminance. ③ Different varieties exhibited varying adapting capacities to light illuminance. The MDA levels of‘ Jilihong’ and‘ Dongfanghong’ increased with increasing light illuminance, whereas those of‘ Zhongguohong’ and‘ Hongyan’ first increased and then decreased with increasing light illuminance, and those of‘ Ruyi’ decreased with increasing light illuminance. Three varieties, including‘ Jilihong’,experienced the most severe cell membrane damage under low light conditions, whereas all varieties exhibited the least damage under high light conditions.‘Jilihong’ showed the highest antioxidant enzyme(POD,SOD) activity and strong resistance under high light conditions. Other varieties mostly showed higher enzyme activity under moderate or low light conditions, with adapting ability to low light condition.【Conclusion】The growth condition and ornamental value of A. modestum are optimal under high light illuminance(2 500-7 700 lx).It is recommended to cultivate A.modestum in environments with sufficient light, while avoiding strong light scorching or excessive shading,so as to maximize growth and ornamental benefits.
