Abstract: |
【Objective】This study investigated the effects of different levels of turmeric supplementation on growth performance and liver antioxidant capacity of broilers to provide reference for application of turmeric in white-feathered broilers.【Method】A total of 288 white-feathered broilers were randomly divided into 4 groups with 6 replicates per group and 12 broilers per replicate. For a period of 42 days, the control group was fed a basal diet, and the low, medium and high dose groups were fed a basal diet containing 5,10 and 15 g/kg turmeric, respectively. The growth performance, slaughter performance, serum biochemical indexes, liver index, liver antioxidant indexes and expression of antioxidant-related genes of broilers in each group were measured at 21 and 42 days of age,respectively.【Result】① Compared with the control group, the average daily gain of broilers in each group was significantly increased at the age of 21 days (P<0.05),the average daily feed intake of broilers was insignificantly different (P>0.05),while the ratio of feed to gain of broilers was significantly decreased only in the low dose group (P<0.05).At the age of 42 days, the average daily gain and ratio of feed to gain of broilers were significantly increased in the low dose group (P<0.05).② Compared with the control group, the eviscerated percentage,semi-eviscerated percentage, leg muscle percentage and abdominal fat percentage of broilers in all groups had no significant changes (P>0.05),while the breast muscle percentage of broilers was significantly increased in low and medium dose groups (P<0.05).③ Compared with the control group, the serum HDL-C increased significantly in the low dose group at the age of 42 days (P<0.05),while the serum TG,TC,LDL-C and HDL-C levels in other groups had no significant changes at the age of 21 and 42 days (P>0.05).④ Compared with the control group, adding different doses of turmeric in the basal diet had no significant effect on liver index of broilers (P>0.05).⑤ Compared with the control group, there were no significant differences in SOD,GSH-Px and MDA contents in liver of broilers at the age of 21 days (P>0.05).At the age of 42 days, the contents of SOD and GSH-Px in each group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P>0.05),while the content of MDA was significantly decreased only in the low-dose group (P<0.05).⑥ Compared with the control group, the mRNA expressions of Nrf2 and HO-1 in liver of broilers were significantly increased in low and medium dose groups (P<0.05) at the age of 21 days, while Nrf2 expression was significantly increased only in high dose group (P<0.05).At the age of 42 days, the mRNA expressions of Nrf2 and HO-1 in liver of broilers were significantly increased in low dose group (P<0.05),while HO-1 expression was significantly increased in medium and high dose groups (P<0.05).【Conclusion】Basal diet supplemented with 5 g/kg turmeric could significantly improve growth performance and antioxidant capacity of liver in white-feathered broilers under this experimental condition. |
