Estimation of vegetation ecological water consumption in the middle reaches of Heihe River basin based on INDV
MA Xinyi,SU Xiaoling,ZHANG Gengxi
Abstract:
【Objective】The vegetation ecological water consumption in the middle reaches of Heihe River was estimated to provide scientific reference for the ecological protection and water resources allocation.【Method】Based on the vegetation index (VI) in combination with the contemporaneous land cover types and meteorological data, this paper selected the normalized difference vegetation index (INDV) for May to September 2011 to estimate the ecological water consumption of vegetation throughout growing periods in the middle reaches of the Heihe River basin. The statistics in 2008 were used to verify the results.【Result】The forest evapotranspiration during the study period was 214.2-343.9 mm,and the grassland evapotranspiration was 213.1-269.8 mm.The total vegetation ecological water consumption was 581.28 million m3,among which the forest and grassland ecological water consumptions were 47.42 million m3 and 533.86 million m3,respectively.The results were basically consistent with ground observation data.【Conclusion】Using the VI method to estimate vegetation ecological consumption is relatively simple, accurate and reliable. It has wide applicability for ecological research in arid areas.
