Resistance response of Pinus yunnanensis to inoculation with Leptographium yunnanense,a fungus associated with Tomicus piniperda during the drought season
Abstract:
This paper reports the resistance response of Yunnan pine (Pinus yunnanensis) to inoculation with Leptographium yunnanense,a pathogenic fungus associated with Tomicus piniperda attacking Pinus yunnanensis during the drought season in Kunming region. Results indicated that there is a certain negative relationship existed between the Yunnan pine's resistance and precipitation, and environmental temperature, and the correlation coefficient is r= -0.779 8 and r= -0.462 7 respectively,|r0.05|=0.811,P>0.05.In the earlier drought season, both the temperature and the precipitation are lower, and the water content of the Yunnan pine is also lower, under these conditions, the fungus' growth and its virulence are weaker, the Yunnan pine's resistance is relatively stronger,so the Tomicus attacks during this period is not serious;however,in the later drought season, the temperature rises gradually, and the precipitation also increases,so does the water content of Yunnan pine, under these conditions, the Yunnan pines resistance is relatively weaker, but the fungus' growth and its virulence are relatively stronger,so during this period, the Tomicus attacks (especially trunk attacks) are very serious. These results are constant with the Tomicus attacks under the natural conditions, and could give a better reason for the spacial and temporal distribution of Tomicus attacks.
